Chamber choir Cantinovum goes to Iceland

Cantinovum is the official representative of both The Finnish Amateur Musicians' Association and Finlands svenska sång- och musikförbund at the Nordic Baltic Choral festival during from August 17th to 22nd in Reykjavik, Iceland. 67 choirs and around 1800 singers from Nordic and Baltic countries partake in the festival. Cantinovum performs at the festival's opening concert, which will be attended by, among others, the president and the minister of culture of Iceland. Furthermore, Cantinovum will perform at two evening concerts and two lunchtime concerts. One of the evening concerts will be radioed. Choir will also attend the opening ceremony of the culture evening of Reykjavik, which will be radioed and televised. For the trip, Cantinovum has commissioned compositions from Jussi Chydenius, Mia Makaroff, Heikki Korhonen and Hreidar Ingi Thorsteinsson. Heikki Korhonen's composition was performed at choir's spring concert, but the other three will be premiered in Iceland.

Choir has concerts in Central Finland both before and after the festival trip. The concert before leaving for Iceland is on August 15th in Suolahtisali at 19.00. After returning from Iceland the choir performs in Muuramesali on September 28th at 19.00. Both concerts contain songs from choir's repertoire for the Iceland trip. Concerts will be conducted by Rita Varonen.
